Make It: Italian Marinara Sauce

Italian Marinara Sauce

Cooking Instructions

Use this sauce in any recipe that calls for pasta sauce or store in medium sized freezer bags in the freezer.


Ingredients

  • ¼ cup olive oil

  • 4 cups vegetables (onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, etc.), optional

  • 2 Tab. minced garlic

  • 210 oz. tomato sauce

  • 56 oz. tomato puree

  • 56 oz. crushed tomatoes

  • 8 oz. tomato paste

  • 14 oz. petite diced tomatoes

  • ¼ cup garlic powder

  • 1 cup red wine

  • 1 Tab. oregano

  • 2 Tab. sugar

  • 1 Tbsp. salt

  • 1 Tab. basil

  • 2 tsp. Crushed red pepper flakes

  • Fresh basil leaves, optional

Preparation Instructions

  1. Add olive oil, the garlic and chopped vegetables to a large stock pot. Don't let the garlic burn. Next add the wine. Let simmer for 5 minutes and add all the tomatoes. Stir to combine and add all the rest of the ingredients. Turn the temp to med/low and cover partially and let simmer.

  2. Seal, get out the extra air, and freeze.


Note

Use up any vegetables you have in the refrigerator, or leave out if you have none.

The many types of tomato products are not necessary. If you can’t find one type, substitute for another. It is a flexible recipe.

If you do not have the spices, you can substitute Italian seasoning for any or all of them.

If you don’t have minced garlic, you can leave it out.
